An eye-opening report from an award-winning author and former New York Times reporter reveals the link between teenage marijuana use and mental illness, and a hidden epidemic of violence caused by the drug—facts the media have ignored as the United States rushes to legalize cannabis.
Recreational marijuana is now legal in nine states. Almost all Americans believe the drug should be legal for medical use. Advocates argue cannabis can help everyone from veterans to cancer sufferers. But legalization has been built on myths– that marijuana arrests fill prisons; that most doctors want to use cannabis as medicine; that it can somehow stem the opiate epidemic; that it is not just harmless but beneficial for mental health. In this meticulously reported book, Alex Berenson, a former New York Times reporter, explodes those myths:
• Almost no one is in prison for marijuana;
• A tiny fraction of doctors write most authorizations for medical marijuana, mostly for people who have already used;
• Marijuana use is linked to opiate and cocaine use. Since 2008, the US and Canada have seen soaring marijuana use and an opiate epidemic. Britain has falling marijuana use and no epidemic;
• Most of all, THC—the chemical in marijuana responsible for the drug’s high—can cause psychotic episodes. After decades of studies, scientists no longer seriously debate if marijuana causes psychosis.
Psychosis brings violence, and cannabis-linked violence is spreading. In the four states that first legalized, murders have risen 25 percent since legalization, even more than the recent national increase. In Uruguay, which allowed retail sales in July 2017, murders have soared this year.
Berenson’s reporting ranges from the London institute that is home to the scientists who helped prove the cannabis-psychosis link to the Colorado prison where a man now serves a thirty-year sentence after eating a THC-laced candy bar and killing his wife. He sticks to the facts, and they are devastating.
With the US already gripped by one drug epidemic, this book will make readers reconsider if marijuana use is worth the risk.

This book is built on stacks of lies supported by the occasional coincidence. There are several fallacies and a slue of spurious conclusions in the description alone. It will make you dumber for having read it. Do not download.

Yup,… marijuana is awesome. It enhances people’s lives, so this MUST be a bunch of lies. But, of course, I work as a substance abuse counselor working with people, many of whom have ruined their lives using marijuana. Go figure.

Britain has no opioid abuse problem? What is this guy smoking?
But thanks for posting Goomer, we need to know about such opinions.

Book should be re-titled: Reefer Madness in the 21st Century. None of this book is based on any modern-day science, the author still hasn’t figured out that correlation does not equal causation.

“A group of 75 scholars and medical professionals have criticised a controversial new book about the purported dangers of marijuana, calling it an example of “alarmism” designed to stir up public fear “based on a deeply inaccurate misreading of science”.”

Any book rejected by the “Guardian” must be good. Thank you.

Marijuana CAN mess up your life. This is true. This doesn’t mean that it always does. it’s a complex problem. I am a bit of a marijuana addict and it makes me less sociable and lazy. which would interfere with my bonding with my nephew and my dog because I’d be too lazy to want to interact with them. When I smoke, I almost invariably just wanna listen to or play music. it helps put me in the zone. but perhaps i shouldn’t rely on it to get me there. but it does help currently. but it makes me lazy to do things that I need to get done.. I can see CLEARLY, the negative effect it has on me…
HOWEVER. one of my best friends that I live with smokes marijuana only occasionally and doesn’t have a problem with moderation. my brother in-law smokes very moderately too. so only some people are prone to abuse. I’ve noticed that marijuana is a MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE TOOL is used in moderation. I noticed that every time I quit for a while, and then I smoke again - the effects are much more psychedelic and I become very contemplative and creative. however, it inevitably becomes habitual for me and it loses it’s effectiveness and begins to pull out some of my negative mental qualities. So the trick is to moderate your use.. however, for some people like me… that can be difficult. and also!!!! another crucial fact is that marijuana effects everyone differently as well cause everyone biology responds differently.. cause I know people who smoke and do things that I know I wouldn’t wanna do while high. take joe rogan for example. he smokes during interviews… There’s no way in hell I could do something like that. so it only amplifies/dampens aspects that are already within you.
people often take (as in this comment section) a very black&white ideological approach to topics when the truth is most often somewhere in the middle. I see the truth of the situation and I know that I know and the truth is this: Marijuana is a double-edged sword.

I should mention that I haven’t listened to this audiobook. i don’t plan on it. it would be good to listen just to hear what they have to say but I’m insufficiently interested in the topic to give it a go

Its bastards like this that told me smoking marijuana is fine when I was a kid, which led to a decades+ worth of needless negative things that I couldn’t done without.

I don’t think teenagers or young adults should smoke weed regularly but I don’t think their heads will explode if they do.

Britain just can’t compete with the Sackler family (the Jewish oligarchs that produce oxycotin).
Also, the UK doesn’t have anywhere near the Chinese immigration that the USA and Canada do. That’s where the fentanyl comes from.
I live in Philadelphia. It is the host of the largest open air drug market in the United States. Every month the police confiscate kilos of fentanyl on ships coming into our docks. Each and every time it comes from China.
This ‘author’ (((Berenson))) has his priorities out of order. I wonder if he’s related to anyone in the pharmaceutical corporations?
