The Porn Myth is a non-religious response to the commonly held belief that pornography is a harmless or even beneficial pastime. Author Matt Fradd draws on the experience of porn performers and users, and the expertise of neurologists, sociologists, and psychologists to demonstrate that pornography is destructive to individuals, relationships, and society. He provides insightful arguments, supported by the latest scientific research, to discredit the fanciful claims used to defend and promote pornography.
This book explains the neurological reasons porn is addictive, helps individuals learn how to be free of porn, and offers real help to the parents and the spouses of porn users. Because recent research on pornography’s harmful effects on the brain validates the experiences of countless porn users, there is a growing wave of passionate individuals trying to change the pro-porn cultural norm - by inspiring others to pursue real love and to avoid its hollow counterfeit.
Matt Fradd and this book are part of that movement, which is aiding the many men and women who are seeking a love untainted by warped perceptions of intimacy and rejecting the influence of porn in their lives.

Ah yes… the “non-religious response” about a subject, from a religious fundamentalist cultist who is on a self-professed religious and moral crusade against said subject.

Please keep in mind that Matt Fradd believes masturbation is a mortal sin. The Catholic Church teaches that mortal sins result in eternal separation from God. Matt’s objectivity on this subject is perhaps questionable.

Well said. He is full of BS.

Of course the catholic priests never needed any porn when choir boys were readily available for their pleasure

I read it last year and enjoyed it despite being an unbeliever. The arguments in this book are all secular; they are for everybody.
If you have concerns about whether your porn consumption may have a negative effect on you and on people around you, give this audiobook a chance.

The blurb for this book seems to posit that the alternative to porn is a loving relationship, instead of the seemingly more obvious comparison between virtual and real experiences.
By imposing love as prerequite, you are imposing a moral framework that confuses an otherwise obvious fact:
The more you live behind your screen, the less present you are in the world to enjoy it.
Anybody who has taken a deep dive into porn for a protracted period of time understands that it consumes and circumscribes your life, diminishing your capacity for human connection.
Also: please note that porn and masturbation aren’t synonymous. I hate when they are conflated, since unlike porn, there is no scientific evidence that masturbation is harmful in any way and plenty that it is healthful.
(My own suspicion is that porn needn’t be unhealthy by definition but the current, commercial incarnations of porn have evolved to create addiction.
It’s like ultra-processed food, isn’t it?
It will kill you for sure, long-term, but advice to avoid it doesn’t mean you should stop eating altogether.
I wish more human beings were capable of nuanced judgment — especially if they mean to write books).

Nobody enjoys doing something that they are really bad at.
Nobody is really bad at anything they enjoy doing.

…syllogistically inappropriate/incomplete there.
“please note porn & masturbation aren’t synonymous” - But don’t they go, er, hand in hand? That came out all wrong.

I don’t like this…
I don’t come to your house and tell you how sausage is made!
Sausage. Get it?
u-huh…
